Youth Quake 2006

It's been a very long time since I last posted anything here. I camr back to PJ about 2 weeks ago; my 1st week was used to make Christmas gifts and helping TRAC to settle nametags for YQ, while my 2nd week was spent at camp! My hols will end soon d *sob sob* I may have to head back to Kuantan on Christmas day itself. See how la... anyways, below is something about Youth Quake 2006:

*****

Would you be able to imagine what 500 youths could do to a place? Yup, cause an ‘earthquake’! At YQ2006, that was what happened.

December 7th-10th were specially set aside for this mega event. The Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) organized this camp, supposedly a once-in-4-years camp, with the expectancy of accommodating 350 youths, ranging from 13-20 years old, from all over Malaysia. However, the turnout was so encouraging that TRAC decided to fit all 480 plus people (I think) for this camp at Kem Bina Insan, Kuala Kubu Bahru, Selangor.

Personally, I had a lot of fun despite being very tired, pretty badly sun burnt, and running around helping the others at camp. I went as helper this time (I’m over-aged!!), and was the assistant tribe leader for Yosafat. Yeah, we call ourselves ‘You’re so fat’ instead! Hehe…

Tribe Yosafat:

There are 12 tribes altogether, with each tribe having 4 families consisting of 8-9 members. That’s really a lot for the tribe leaders to handle. The first day was quite relaxing ‘cause we had the briefing, worship, and one session by our camp speaker, Sean Mcdowell only.

Day 2 was more packed with sessions and workshops. As assistant tribe leader, I could choose which workshop to go to, so I went to the one by Ps Timothy Lam, thinking of helping him out there, but ended up as one of the participants instead. The workshop was ‘My Friends Have Other Beliefs and Practices’. We learnt about different religions, cults and occults, and worked together in small groups to present our findings on different beliefs and practices; my group did ‘New Age Movement’. I thought it was quite cute cos it looked as if the kids/ youths are not aware of the various practices aside from the few mainstream such as Islam, Buddhism, & Hinduism. LOL. It was interesting to hear them present on 5 different types of practices: Islam, Buddhism, Occultic Games, Scientology, & New Age Movement. I really hope it opened up their eyes to the various cults & occults in this world, and how we as Christians could show them the way to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Each group had to present their findings:

Day 3 was the day- full day of outdoor games (which explains the sun burnt skin)! There were 4 main stations: Heart, Soul, Mind, & Strength. In each station, there were several sub-stations. I helped out in the Soul challenge. In this station that I was in, there were 3 sub-stations; one was like a 9-legged race kinda thing (I hope I’m correct…7 ppl tying their legs together), another ski-walking, another water balloon war. Standing under the sun, being helpers at the station from 9am-5pm was amazing. There wasn’t any shade at all! Bummer. But having about 7-8 pf us there together was really, very fun. I got to know more people who were also helpers like myself, & I also had some ‘syiok-sendiri’ time with the rest. *winks* We were all dead tired by the end of the day.

Day 4 was just the last day of worship at campsite, the personal development plan, and saying our sayonaras. We had some time of photo shooting, exchanging contacts, and packing our bags to leave that somewhat eeky place. Very basic la.

I really felt the sessions were very good. Topics were very ‘back to basics’ kinda stuff, & I felt that it was very useful to ensure that the youths have a good foundation on what they believe in, & why should they believe in Jesus instead of other practices. The emphasis for the 2 days of sessions was basically the Truth, and what actually is Truth- are the things that are said to be truths objective or subjective truths; there is a difference both types of truth.

I hope the youths who attended the camp will be challenged to live a life in the Truth & share the Truth with those around them. Although most of them are pretty young, I still pray that they will be filled with passion to shine for Jesus and love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, & strength. To God be the glory forever & ever, Amen.
