27 May 2005, Friday

Acts 11: 24 - For He was a good man, full of the Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

Being the only Christian among my Chinese course mates, indeed I am fully aware that I am bearing the name of Jesus in me; everything that I do will be scanned & analyzed - influencing them & impressing upon them the values I have learned & am bearing with me. With that as a reminder, I know that I can never escape from friendship politics (as I call it).

As I think I have mentioned before, there are issues revolving amongst my friends. Politics is what I dislike most, yet I have to go through it everyday. *sigh* In today’s QT passage, I am reminded on how my conduct should be. It is not only in being a good person that people see Christ in me, but by having the faith & being ‘full of the Holy Spirit’. How does that show? Getting back to the basics of QT & Bible reading? I want to practice exergesis (Greek word) & not eigesis. It is not easy la. It means I have to learn to be still & listen attentively to His voice speaking through the Word; what the passage clearly intends to tell, not what it means in my personal agendas. Often enough, I miss the point of doing QT. Bummer.

Well, well, about how my day went…oh, it was a total adventure. I reckon I will have more of these as long as I am in this uni.

Once again, I waited for the bus from 5.30pm. As you would have guessed it right, the bus NEVER did arrive! I waited ‘til about 6.50pm. You must be wondering ‘why this Ruth Wong is SO silly to continue waiting for the bus?’. I had to…that was the only mode of transportation to town. The wind was blowing like crazy and the rain started to pour. It was pretty freezing to sit alone at the bus stop with the load of luggage and a book to keep me on my toes.

I have to thank God no matter what. I got a ride at the end from the lady guard to Taman Tas, which is half way to town. By that time, the sky was dark already &I have NO whatsoever idea how I am going to get to town unless I take another bus or a taxi, which of course would be a STUPID idea. I waited at the bus stop alone, with a taxi man (waiting to pounce on anybody who wants to get to town). IT will cost me RM8 to get to town if I were to take the taxi. No way man!

I ended up taking the Bee Huat bus to town. That was my first time boarding that bus. I got off at the Terminal, with greater hopes that I could get Abi to pick me up from that place (as I think it is nearer to his house if compared to Benteng). Fat hopes, Miss Wong. Uncle Francis is in church for the Alpha meeting & Aunty Roslind is at the Vital Years. Bah. The only options were to walk to church and wait for 2 hours for Uncle Francis, which will be a 15 minutes walk (at a constant pace) from where I stopped, or to take up the challenge and walk back to Abi’s house.

Being the mad woman I am, I took up option 2. LOL. If I were to walk fast enough without looking back and stopping, I may be able to arrive in about half an hour time. That is if I walk fast enough. Ok, I shall just walk there, and I did. Misfortune or just a plain coincidence, while walking halfway to his house, the zip of my bag broke (I tried to open my bag to remove a book to make my bag lighter)! Argh! Thus, I walked to Abi’s with an opened luggage. Bummer!

I walked considerably fast with that lousy loaded luggage (I brought most of my clothes to his house top wash that weekend ‘cause the water in uni is murky), a paper bag, and a file in my hand. Sweating like a pig crossing the road and walking at the side of the main road, I told myself to not give up and keep walking the challenge with faith…in His strength kinda thing. Dangerous or not to be walking alone on the streets at that time of the day, I can’t be bothered; I prayed for strength and protection though. Rule #1: Never look back. Just keep your eyes on what you are suppose to achieve. Rule #2: NEVER slow down eventhough you are tired (unless of course you really cant go on anymore). Rule #3: VERY important. NEVER EVER unzip your bag while you are walking halfway. You may just end up having an opened luggage like what I experienced.

It took me about 40 minutes to reach Abi’s house, considering I went to the Lin Chi Kang stall to buy some Lin Chi Kang for Abi, Tiff, Gail & myself also. Woo-hoo! A great achievement for me! When it comes to convenience a.k.a. money verses inconvenience, I will usually choose the latter unless I am very loaded with cash. I can actually take a cab to Abi’s from town. It would cost me around RM2, I reckon, but aiya…RM2 can get me a bus ticket form outside my uni to town le. Heck, I can’t be bothered if I had to walk or not, knowing that God is for me always…(don’t take this for granted) Praise God for the strength, His providence & a measure of faith! Teeheehee…
