Special Delivery...

*sigh* Blogger is giving me SO many problems. It's SLOW in loading, DIFFICULT to connect to the website, & just a hassle to reconnect each time the page couldn't publish my post. Bummer. I'm thinking of moving to another site, but I'm not so sure bout this yet. Currently, I've posted stuff on my Multiply site as well...

As for the 'Special Delivery' that I've mentioned in my previous blog post, here's how it looked :)

I miss...

The longer I'm stuck in uni, the more I miss these:

^ My family

^ The Awesome Threesome

*sigh* I miss my favourite veggie soup (I can't post the photo up now...bummer), my Jolly Mah, my bed, my house, my 'land'! Gah. I wanna go home... rather go home than be stuck in this place. (I think the amount of work to do is eating into me...but procrastination allows space for relaxation....hahaha)

Well, on the brighter side, someone made my day (today) :) Someone special! Hehe... when I entered my room this morning (the weekend was spent at 'home'), HChen told me, "Ar Ruth, lei yau special delivery ar..." Puzzled, I looked towards my table, and ooo...I saw something different! It's a stalk of 'Ferrero Rocher'! Ahuh... wrapped into a shape of a flower (purple!), with the balloon stick as its stalk. Interesting. It was from David. Haha... my faithful CF assistant leader. What a sweet surprise for a start of the week ;) ... I'll try to remember to take a picture of it b4 it ends up in my tummy, k? :P

It's part of some 'dedication idea' that's going 'round our campus for the past 2 weeks or so. I didn't bother about it. David tried asking me for my room number, but I replied his sms late, so he was rather disappointed that he couldn't get it for me that time (I told him I'm not a person who fancies chocolates like crazy anyways, so it's alright). I told him the thought counts, not the gift, so haha... typical of miss Wong, I told him not to waste money on such things... :P Guys don't really listen to girls. Anyways, thanks, David. Thanks loads for the gift & for being my faithful assistant.

Time to take a snooze... class begins at 4pm for an hour before another day comes to a close. *gah*

Chinese New Year shopping

CNY is around the corner... falling on the 18th of February, to be exact. Every shopping centre is seen packed with people, hustling and bustling to get the items on their shopping list.

I was at Megamall & Kuantan Parade last weekend with Abigail, uncle Francis, & Aunty Rosalind, to buy Abigail a pair of shoes and some clothes for her usual wear. That girl is growing. Although she didn't grow that much as compared with the other children of her age, she has indeed shot up a little since the last 2+ years when I first came to Kuantan. Heh. It was quite cute whenever we bumped into some parents with kids of her age; parents being parents will sub-conciously compare their kids either physically or mentally. The poor girl was so shy to meet anyone else on the street. She knows she's not tall. *sigh*

"What matters? Height or brains?" I asked her. "Brains, right? So the next time someone calls you a 'shorty', tell them that 'it's ok to be short as long as I use my brains & I'm smart!'..." Haha... my ajaran a bit serong wan... kekeke... but as long as it boosts the confidence of that kiddo, can la.. :P

I'll miss the home for the next 3 weeks. I won't be staying over at their place this weekend, thanks to the 'Business & Entrepreneurship' talk/ workshop on Saturday & Sunday. Bummer. After this week, I'll go back to PJ (yes!!) for about 10 days, for Chinese New Year, & probably get back to uni earliest by 21st Feb. *yawn* Uni is getting boring. SO much work to do... nothing fun to experience. Bleagh.

ACNielsen- dream or reality?

ACNielsen - a market research company that has over 100 braches all over the world, & several HQs across the globe. Even in Malaysia itself, they have branches in all the states of Malaysia except Perlis. *fuah* HUGE organization, professional people working there, & interesting & exciting scope of work that they have. I WANT TO WORK IN ACNIELSEN MALAYSIA!!!

I applied to do my internship (21st May - 5th October) at ACNielsen. 1. It's an international organization 2. Professionalism 3. Work culture 4. Locality. These are among the many factors that are pulling me towards ACN, & it surely is causing a lot of excitement within me! They called me about 2 weeks ago & told me my job scope as an intern, plus we made an appointment for an intrview on the 12th of February 2007.

I'm very excited for this opportunity & I'm keeping my hopes up that I'll end up as an intern there, & hopefully get employed as well! Teeheehee...as an intern at ACN, I'll do data cleaning (I think it has to do with database normalization & the like) & a lil on C programming.

Back-up plan #1
If I don't meet ACN's standards & get rejected, my next highest hope is to have an intern opportunity with Quad Consulting Pte. Ltd. at Kelana Jaya. This company is an Information Technology consulting company on strategic Information Management System. Its HQ is in Malaysia, and it's influence stretches across ASEAN, with operations in Singapore, Thailand, & Indonesia. Somewhat an international company juga...haha... high hopes :P

Back-up plan #2
If Miss Wong don't deserve to enter an international company, she'll just have to settle with a local company that pays her well as an intern, & that would give her a good future at the end of the day. There are a few companies who have actually responded. Yes, some have accepted my application.

1. Juris Technology in Bukit Mayang Emas. This company accepted me as an intern, but I told them to give me time to consider. I'll be doing more to the management side if I were to work there i.e. software documenting & business. They pay RM500 per month per intern. Pros: quite near to home, pretty high pay for an internship, & I get to do what I do best in this line. Cons: I think I pissed the lady off when I told her that I need time to consider. She wasn't too glad about that & it may affect my relationship with her if I end up working there.

2. IITC Global Technology in Kota Damansara. This company also accepted me as an intern, but I also told them to give me time to consider. They were pretty linient with this. The one thing about this company is that it is a MSC-status company that has business with organizations overseas, not just locally. They are well-known for their Total Collaborative Management Solution for the Education Industries - basically speaking, they develop systems for campus use. They have business with campuses like Cambridge. If I were to do my intern there, I'll be doing .Net programming & SQL queries. I haven't learnt .Net before, so it may be pretty difficult to work there & perform to their standards. They're giving RM400 per month per intern. Pros: good prospects & somewhat interesting scope. Cons: distance, low allowance, I've not much time to learn .Net before working there, so it may be difficult to perform there.

3. Pintar Media in SS15 Subang Jaya This company deals with education software for school children. Sounds interesting, but so far, they are not internationally known yet. I have not gotten an interview time with them yet, & although it's the nearest to home, I doubt I'll learn a lot from them as well as have good prospects compared to ACNielsen or Quad Consulting.

Choices. I've quite a good number of choices now, but I'm yet to choose the one who gives me the seemingly brightest future & good pay. Highest hope is on ACNielsen, no doubt. The rest are sorry to say, my back-ups. Well, the Lord will show me the one that He wants me to be in. I pray that I'll end up with a good company, & get a good experience as an intern & perhaps get a job offer after my internship as well!

Salad day

I'm going crazy with the load of work that's on my plate... SO crazy that I ended up practising some culinary arts stuff in the room for dinner. But I had GREAT fun in doing that :) I ended up making dinner for myself & my room mates, which tasted good! HEh... the dish was called 'Friendship Island Delight' (HChen gave the name)- it has salad leaves, tomatoes, carrots, teriyaki salmon, a teaspoon or two of mayonaise, a dash of pepper, & honey drizzled on the top :) Walla... bon appetit!

Introducing the 'Friendship Island Delight'!

Kuantan- I love being in 'exile'

Kuantan is strangely cold! For the past 2 weeks, the weather is Kuantan has been rather interesting... it rains almost non-stop, & the rain falls in very fine droplets- a very interesting sight. Wet weather, clothes can't dry, floods in low lands/ small villages, & no sun!

It's as if the whole of Kuantan has a centralized air-con at 22 degrees Celcius! For me, it's FREEZING cold! But I will SO miss it when I get back to the West Coast... nothing like that in PJ. Kuantan feels like Fraser's Hill! Aaahh...my uni lagi best cos near the hills & next to the forest :)

The past few weeks have been ergh for me. I foresee this week as one EXTREMELY MAD one too! Bummer. 'Online Headache & Migraine Diagnosis System' (OHMDS)...why did I choose this topic to be my final year project?? Rar..

Happy Feet strikes back...

The previous weekend has been quite 'traumatic' for me. The story behind Happy Feet is becoming TOO real in my life. It's very disheartening to have such cases happening within a large community, where people are suppose to live in peace with each other. (I'm sure Uncle Francis agrees with me in this)

I hate to be stuck in between 2 groups that are in disagreement with one another. Why can't they just sit down & resolve the issue? Relationships are tearing apart, the entire organization is slowly crumbling! ARGH.

When only will this 'cold war' end? Everyone better get to their knees & pray that such things will come to an end quickly *sigh*

Does God Exist?

This is one of the best explanations
of why God allows pain and suffering
that I have seen. It's an explanation
people will understand.

A man went to a barbershop to have

his hair cut and his beard trimmed.
As the barber began to work,
they began to have a good conversation.
They talked about so many things
and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on
the subject of God, the barber said:
"I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?"
asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in
the street to realize that God
doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists,
would there be so many sick people?
Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither
suffering nor pain.
I can't imagine a loving a God who
would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment,
but didn't respond because he didn't
want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer
left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop,
he saw a man in the street with long,
stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed
beard.
He looked dirty and un-kept.

The customer turned back and entered
the barber shop again and he said
to the barber:
"You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?"
asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber.
And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed.
"Barbers don't exist because
if they did, there would be no
people with dirty long hair
and untrimmed beards,
like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist!
What happens is, people
do not come to me."

"Exactly!"-
affirmed the customer.
"That's the point!
God, too, DOES exist!
What happens, is, people
don't go to Him
and do not look for Him.
That's why there's so much pain
and suffering in the world."

New Year, New Direction

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Yup, the new year is here, & ahuh, I haven't been doing my part to keep this site updated. What to do? My schedule has been very packed this semester- my final semester! I've a heap of project to settle, my own final year project to handle, internship applications to send out, resumes to type & emailed, AND my non-academic life to balance as well!!! *sigh*

I'll try to keep this site updated from time to time. It's quiet early in the morning now, & I'm supposed to be in bed, but was searching for places to undergo my internship on the internet (since afternoon!!...but I had some hours off the comp la).

Just a brief account of what happened since my last post:
1. Christmas was pretty quiet over in PJ, but it was alright ;)
2. Uni started on 26th Dec 2006. It was a drag to be back in uni... final sem. Bleagh.
3. I went to JB for my annual meet up with Mabel & Fern. Met up with Kuan Kiat, Yong Jie, Kin Hup, Pastor Tim & family, plus Mabel's family. I had a great tiem there despite it being quite a short weekend.
4. Uni reopened on the 3rd of Jan 2007 after the New Year break. Bleagh. Work is starting to pile up.

So far, that's all that happened...the main things la. Ah, my beloved pencil case went missing last Thursday, & I was lamenting over it for the whole night... THANK GOD, someone found it, & she gave it back to me! SO happy til tears of joy came rolling down. Usually, the things that go missing in the uni won't get back to its owner; people to found it will think it's a 'finder's keepers' item. REally thank God for the return of my pencil case (sentimental value la... Mabel's mum gave it to me 2 years ago... heh).

Alrighty, I'll update this site whenever I've some spare time. 'Til then, take care & God bless, my dear 'readers'.
